Best 50 Games For your iPad

Development companies have recently been crafting iPad games that are longer, better looking, and offer a lot more in terms of storyline and interactivity. It is possible that companies recognized the lack of "hardcore" gamers using ipad and iphone, began to craft titles that would hopefully draw some of these players in. There is a lot of missed revenue for both developers and Apple here and the boost in bigger iOS games may be a joint answer to the problem.

we've compiled and reviewed 50 new best iPad games. download and play these games and send us your feedback via email or post your comments below this post. your feedback will help us improve this best ipad games 2012 list.

Best First Person Shooter (FPS) for iPad

9mm ($6.99)

This hugely entertaining third-person shooter is very much a case of 'shoot first, ask questions once the bad guys are dead'. The graphics are superb and the dialogue is hilarious. 9mm offers optional gyroscope-based controls, and the controls are conveniently placed. There are also numerous firearms to choose from, and a shop for upgrades.

N.O.V.A. 3 ($6.99)

The third N.O.V.A instalment has been given a visual overhaul to set a new benchmark in the FPS arena. There are some very cool slo-mo seguences that will delight gamers, and the controls and on-screen icons remain very workable, so casual gamers can play without having to worry about learning the game. The multiplayer has been rebooted, with multiple players able to jump in the same vehicle.

Rage HD ($1.99)

One of the early standout shooters for iOS from the people who brought us Quake and Doom.
Archetype ($0.99)

A truly excellent multiplayer shooter on iPhone, that you can also enjoy on the iPad if you like.

Classic tactical shooting from the Rainbow Six.

The last big shooter form the Gameloft team, it made huge leaps forward.

A spin off from possibly the biggest game franchise in the world.

Best Action/Arcade/Advanture Games for iPad

Aquaria ($4.99)

You are tasked with helping Naija, a mermaid-like creature, explore her underwater world and discover her past. It's slow to start and the controls can be a little awkward at times, but Aquaria draws you in and the beautiful design and soundtrack keep you hooked.

Zombies, Run! ($7.99)

In terms of incentive, fitness apps don't offer a great deal, but Zombies, Run/turns running into a gaming experience that's one part perspiration and several parts anticipation of what's going to happen next. Plug your headphones in and Zombies, Run! will envelope you in a post Z-Day world of zombie hordes and a small camp of survivors desperate for any supplies it can get. As the town's runner, you earn items by covering distances, and get to listen to the drama unfold with hours of recorded dialogue. It's one of the most immersive apps we've used and a great way to get you off the couch and enjoy some exercise.

The crime-filled title that changed the nature of open-world games forever. Grand Theft Auto was released on iOS to mark the ten-year anniversary of the original's launch. This incarnation was also revolutionary because it took the genre from top down 2D to 3D visuals. The real joy of this app is that it looks exactly as it did on the console, and this shows how far mobile gaming has come.

At least none of the original content seems to have been watered down. Max Payne Mobile for iPad is still full of the violence, drugs and sexuality of the original game and offers a darker, more serious gameplay experience than most mobile titles with a robust story. This is a long game too with 1015 hours worth of play so for serious gamers and Max Payne fans, this game must take its place on your home screen.

Swordigo ($1.99)

Swordigo should be terrible. It looks like something made for Children's BBC in 1992 and has dialogue that even Michael Bay would consider too simplistic. But at the same time it's pulled off the bottled lightning of great touchscreen combat controls. Primarily an action roleplaying game with a spot of puzzling, it's an absorbing, retro-feeling adventure despite the lousy presentation. Levelling up, unlocking new skills and buying new gear lends a sense of purpose even if the banal plot doesn't. This is hardly a treat for the senses, but despite its graphical and dialogue failings, Swordigo is a deft and varied little action roleplaying game that's done truly smart things with touch controls.

With all of the flair and gameplay of the original titles, this iOS version actually looks considerably better than its predecessors, especially on the iPad HD. There is no shortage of artwork either as the game spans across four different levels, each with four different acts. That's a total of twenty different stages. There are also seven special stages, that are played on a 3D plane. There is a decent amount of replayability here as well, and the title keeps track of high scores for each specific level.

Tiny Wings ($0.99)

Press the screen and the little bird stops flapping his wings and zips down the slope; release it and the flapping resumes, giving him the ability to soar through the air. The idea is to gather momentum and fly. It's a simple idea, but Tiny Wings is sneakily challenging and addictive.

Aside from that there are very few negative points and Skylanders Cloud Patrol for ipad is fun and challenging. Whether intimately familiar with the franchise or a newbie to the world, Skylanders is a welcome addition to the series and great family fun.

As a freebie intended to promote a movie, it's tempting to dismiss Girl On Fire as an exercise in cynicism. As it happens, it was created by Adam Atomic, the guy behind Canabalt, the increasingly classic granddaddy of autorunning games. Girl On Fire is another autorunner, but adds combat to the mix. As you leap up and down, you fire off arrows to take down giant mutant wasps and other foes. Simple, but satisfyingly challenging. Death is all but inevitable, which is very much in keeping with the theme of the film/book. Girl On Fire mines a surprising degree of challenge and satisfaction out of its consciously simple structure - and despite being free, shames the vast majority of its paid-for auto running rivals.

Jetpack Joyride (Free)

Jetpack Joyride is an addictive game that will keep you coming back for more. You play Barry Steakfries, who breaks into a top-secret lab, steals a machine-gun-powered jetpack and takes flight. As you run along, avoiding the hazards, you collect coins to buy accessories. But the extras are the real pull, with different vehicles to try.

Asteroids: Gunner is a 21st century revisit of the popular arcade classic. You need to blow up clusters of asteroids: the left onscreen joypad controls movement, while the right pad fires. The original premise is given a facelift with elegant graphics and responsive controls.

One of the original Retina display releases alongside the new iPad, Sky Gamblers: Air Supremacy was designed to show what is now possible on a mobile device in gaming terms. The air combat game takes you to the centre of huge dogfights, where there can be up to 50 planes on screen in one go, all the while maintaining the fantastic visuals. Then there's Airplay through the Apple TV, which turns your iPad into the flight controls for a full HD game.

Best Role Playing (RPG) Games for iPad

A series of one-on-one battles with giant monsters fought using gestures and perfect timing, Infinity Blade II keeps and expands almost everything that was great about its predecessor. The graphics are superb and you're forced to approach the fights more imaginatively.

RPG and Infinity Blade fans will find a lot to enjoy in Juggernaut: Revenge of Sovering. Waves of one on one, touch based combat and a great look and feel akin to the famous action RPG are at the forefront of a deep gameplay experience.

Zenonia 4 (Free)

One of the best things about Zenonia 4 is its price. Its absolutely free to download, although there is a special store that will allow you to buy helpful items and gold in exchange for cash. This is one of the best RPG's that I've played on both iPad and iPhone and is definitely the type of title that hardcore gamers will love. This is the fourth installment in the series, and is considered the best up to now but the other three titles are definitely worth a look.

Despite its repetitiveness, the level design is good, and the overall journey and experience makes this a great little adventure. My Little Hero is fun, simple and has a distinctive look and quality along the lines of the classic Zelda - a top down adventure RPG with a Pixar meets Tim Burton style.

Best Board and Card Games for iPad

Carcassonne ($9.99)

It's a little expensive, but this tile-laying game works beautifully on iOS and is so much fun to play.
Puerto Rico HD ($7.99)

Colonising the Spanish empire sounds boring, but it's anything but. Great multiplayer support as well.
Small World ($6.99)

This battle for supremacy between fantasy creatures is a firm favourite of Star Trek's Wil Wheaton.
Dominion ($4.99)

It's not an official product, but this excellent deck-builder has the original creator's blessing.

Best iPad Puzzle Games

Where's My Water? ($0.99)

In Where's My Water?, you have to direct water from street level storm drains to Swampy the alligator's shower. Standing between the water and the pipe is a large amount of earth cluttered with objects. You need to dig a path through the dirt to guide the water to the pipe, while avoiding sewer dead ends.
Peggle HD ($0.99)

The aim of this extremely addictive game is to hit all the orange pegs. Green pegs give you power ups, which vary depending on the stage you're playing. If your ball lands in the bucket that drifts back and forth, you get a free ball. For added fun, there's a Replay option, plus a trophy room for all your achievements.

W.E.L.D.E.R. ($0.99)
At its core, W.E.L.D.E.R. is a word search: you create words of four or more letters by swapping nearby letters. But there are numerous twists as you progress, a great-looking interface and some lovely ambient sounds. It's addictive and a pleasure for the senses. If you have the slightest interest in word games, make sure you own this.

Soccer fans will be most drawn to Freekick Battle, but it still holds a good degree of fun for anyone looking for a different take on a physics-based puzzle iPad game.

Burnout Crash! ($0.99)
It's rare that a console port to mobile is as good, if not better, than the original but Burnout Crash! on mobile devices manages that feat. It's lost nothing in presentation and the original controls lend themselves perfectly to a touchscreen environment. I still enjoy playing on my big screen TV, but I get just as much fun and enjoyment out of this version as on console. It's a must have.

Knockball ($0.99)
It's an enjoyable title with a good degree of polish and while it's not a "blow you away" type of game, it's a good mix of three styles and games rolled into one.

Nightlings ($0.99)
Nightlings takes a popular concept and while not exactly improving on it, does provide a fun and satisfying tower defense type of experience without deviating from tried and tested gameplay. It might have its critics for being so similar, but Nightlings isn't trying to reinvent the wheel and anyone who enjoyed Plants vs Zombies will no doubt enjoy this too.

Brick People ($1.99)
In each stage of this bizarre game, you stack bricks to help the Brick People get to out-of-reach food. Occasionally, you have to collect objects in order, or build specific shapes. Besides the single-player mode, you can also challenge a human opponent via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth.

Best iPad Games for Kids

Duckers (Free)
This is an adorable game with plenty of charm. It feels nostalgic yet modern with a very simple concept and core mechanic. A Ducking good game.

Pocket Planes (Free)

Pocket Planes is a very charming, highly addictive iPad game. Push notifications draw you back in to the app with a cabin ding, flying planes emit the low hum of the engine and the world is populated by happy, smiley people. You can find out more about these "Bitizens" by visiting the in-game take on Facebook, called "Bitbook", where you can read what passengers are saying and get a sense of their back story. And Bitbook is just the beginning of the extra Ul beyond the game including "Airpedia"and Flight Crew.

Best iPad Strategy Games

Gameplay is awesome, the tutorial is succinct and helpful, and the interface is as clean as it possibly can be for such a deep style of play. Graphically the game is cartoony but bright and pleasing. Vehicles begin to populate the roads, people wait by bus stops, children play in the gardens and the seasons change adding to the atmosphere with snow, rain and thunder.
Autumn Dynasty ($6.99)
Autumn Dynasty looks great and plays really well. It is similar vibe to Age of Empires or Total War Shogun and it makes RTS gaming fast and frenetic as you relentlessly swipe and tap the screen to launch attacks and destroy your enemies. It's almost like an extremely dynamic, flexible and fast game of chess.

Jelly Defense ($2.99)
In this refreshing take on the tower defence genre, your job is to protect a set of crystals from the jelly invaders who travel predetermined paths towards them, by placing jelly towers with a variety of weapons. Jelly Defense is addictive and entertaining and looks good, and its catchy soundtrack might even help you learn Polish.

Elder Sign: Omens HD ($6.99)

Lovecraftian horror game, which sees investigators exploring an ever-changing museum of mystery.

Best Racing Games for iPad

Crash Bandicoot: Nitro Kart 3D ($2.99)

Crash Bandicoot is the game that proved the iPhone is a genuine gaming platform - the graphics are fantastic, offering a colourful 3D racing environment and cute characters, and the gameplay is fast and furious and fun. Still an App Store highlight that holds its own against more recent games.

Red Bull Kart Fighter World Tour (Free)

Red Bull Kart Fighter World Tour is a good racer with a decent sized chunk of content.
Hardcore gamers will be happy to know that developers haven't "left you out" when it comes to games on ipad and iphone. In fact, as time progresses I am seeing more and more ipad hardcore games appear in the apple app store. These games are usually far more challenging and in-depth than a traditional iOS games and some of these works are incredibly appealing and well done. There are also many ports for older games, which should help you get your retro fix. Controllers and cabinets are popping up as well, and there are rumors lately that Apple is working on its very own iOS specific control-pad, which would really help a lot of us gamers to feel more at home when playing iphone and ipad games.
The ipad games listed above are enough to get you started if you're considering playing some of the more advanced games on your iPhone or iPad, but keep a look out. Things are only going to get better for gamers as developers focus on bringing the best possible games to iphone and ipad.
