Best Android Apps to Help You Find Your Lost Smartphone

                                            lost android phone

Worry no more about misplaced or lost phones. The Android Market has several apps that can help locate phones–primarily using GPS technology–if ever you lose or misplace them.
Losing your phone can be a scary thing. Your phone is not only an important device that you use for various tasks. It is also a device that can reveal important personal information about you or your contacts.
With these three apps, you have three solutions to the question “How can I find my phone?” when your phone goes missing.

Plan B

Everyone wants to protect his/her phones, but when lost, Plan B can help you find its way back. Plan B is a find-my-phone application created by Lookout Mobile Security. The best thing about this app is that it doesn’t need to be installed on your phone; rather, this app can be sent and installed to your phone from the Android Market even when you have already lost your phone.
How does Plan B work?
  1. When you lose your Android phone, send the Plan B app to it from the Android Market.
  2. Plan B will automatically send your phone’s location to the Gmail address associated with your Google account.
  3. After 10 minutes, you can locate your phone again by using another Android phone (your friend’s phone, for example). Send the word ‘locate’ to your lost phone and Plan B (on your lost phone) will send you details of its whereabouts.
Once Plan B is installed, the app locates your phone by utilizing cell towers and GPS. Plan B determines your lost phone’s location every 10 minutes, so you’d know whether your phone is standing still or on the go.

Lookout Security & Antivirus

While Plan B is a great last-resort app for locating your lost phone, the Lookout Security & Antivirus app should have been on your phone in the first place. Just like Plan B, Lookout Security & Antivirus uses a built-in phone locator and GPS to find your lost phone’s location. All you need to do is to log in to MyLookout.com and click the locate button to find your phone with an accuracy of about 10 to 15 feet.
Users of the Lookout Security & Antivirus app have the option to locate their phone on Google Maps even if GPS is turned off on the phone, set off an alarm even if the phone is in silent mode, or clean out any important information on your phone. Aside from a phone locator, the app can protect your phone from unwanted viruses and provides backup and restore functions.
You can try the premium features of the Lookout Security & Antivirus app for free for a limited period. After the trial period ends, the app automatically returns to a free-to-use version but with certain limitations in functionalities.

SeekDroid

Like the two applications mentioned earlier, SeekDroid allows users to remotely control their phone from a website, which in this case is SeekDroid.com.
However, unlike Plan B and Lookout Security & Antivirus, SeekDroid has some unique features that differentiate it from the two. For instance, SeekDroid allows the user to disable itself from being uninstalled without a password. It reportedly does not drain off too much battery power and would still work even without a SIM card. You can remotely activate your phone’s GPS, locate your lost phone, and have SeekDroid show you its location on a map.

If you ever lose your Android phone, what will be the first thing you’d do to retrieve it?
