Upgrade your Nokia N8 to Nokia Lumia 920

The Nokia N8 has been an amazing success but with the arrival of the Nokia Lumia 920, even the Symbian smartphones most ardent fans are starting to swayed by the Windows Phone 8 flagship smartphone. Here we look at the top reasons why you should upgrade your Nokia N8 to the Nokia Lumia 920.
The Nokia N8 and its 12-Megapixel camera will go down in history as the last truly stunning Symbian smartphone (we’re not counting the Nokia 808 PureView in this as it’s more a specialised smartphone than a mainstream stunner).

However, it’s hard to ignore that all the chatter online and in stores is about the arrival of the Nokia Lumia 920. Not only does it deliver a stunning look and feel, it’s also the most cutting-edge smartphone out there today, making it the ideal upgrade candidate for your Nokia Lumia 920.

Nokia N8 to Nokia Lumia 920: Screen

The Nokia N8 has an AMOLED screen that’s always produced impressively vibrant colours. However, both its 3.5-inch size and its 360 x 640 resolution are looking a little dated now – especially when stacked up against the Nokia Lumia 920 equivalent.
The Nokia Lumia 920′s 4.5-inch display packs in a list of features you simply won’t find anywhere else. The IPS display has a screen resolution of 768 x 1280 pixels, while the PureMotion HD+ technology means it has a 60fps refresh rate, making it the fastest display of any smartphone. Then there is the 600 NIT brightness and 332ppi pixel density making sure that images are not only fast but also pin-point colour accurate.

Nokia N8 to Nokia Lumia 920: Size and Weight

As you might expect given that bigger screen, the Nokia Lumia 920 is actually bigger and heavier than the Nokia N8. While the Nokia N8 measures 113.5 × 59 × 12.9mm and weighs 135g, the Nokia Lumia 920 weighs in at 185g and measures 130.3 x 70.8 x 10.7mm. As you may have noticed from that, the Nokia Lumia 920 is a fair bit slimmer than the Nokia N8, which makes all the difference in the pocket.

Nokia N8 to Nokia Lumia 920: Tech Spec

The Nokia N8 runs on a 680MHz single-core processor backed by 256MB of RAM. Fine for the relatively basic Symbian OS, but times have changed. The Nokia Lumia 920 runs on a 1.5GHz dual-core processor and 1GB of RAM. That’s necessary to handle the advanced Windows Phone 8 operating system, as well as 3D games and HD videos.
In terms of storage, the Nokia Lumia 920 comes with 32GB of internal memory. Then there’s the 7GB of  cloud storage laid on by Microsoft’s SkyDrive service. The Nokia N8 has 16GB of internal storage, but can only expand that by 32GB through its microSD slot. There’s no SkyDrive either.

Nokia N8 to Nokia Lumia 920: Camera

The Nokia N8 is legendary among photography enthusiasts. Its 12-megapixel camera was the best mobile camera for years, and has only recently been trumped by the Nokia 808 PureView with its stunning and revolutionary 41-Megapixel sensor.
The Nokia Lumia 920 is no slouch in the camera department. Sure, it’s 8.7-Megapixel sensor rating isn’t quite as high as that of the Nokia N8 but with the Nokia Lumia 920 is the second PureView cameraphone to be launched and follows on from the Nokia 808. However, while they share a brand name, the technology used is a little different.
The Nokia 808 PureView is a 1/1.2-inch sensor capable of handling 41-Megapixel capture, that comes with noise-reducing pixel oversampling and lossless zoom. The Nokia Lumia 920 takes a different route, largely to make the camera module smaller but also to advance the user-experience when shooting in low-light conditions.
What this results in is the best of both worlds, a smartphone that is able to take stunning photos in every day settings, as well as manage what no other smartphone can do, handle great shots in low lights.
Video too, is more impressive on the Nokia Lumia 920. It can shoot full HD 1080p video, while the Nokia N8 can only manage 720p. However, the biggest addition has to be the inclusion of Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS) that means you won’t find any of the video shake often equated with smartphone footage.
