Sony announces five new point-and-shoot cameras, all pack 360-degree panorama mode

The new Xperia Z and ZL were the stars of the Sony show yesterday, but the Japanese company also unveiled a number of digital cameras. Five new point and shoot cameras debuted and they are all pretty feature-packed.

Potentially the most popular of the new cameras will be the CyberShot WX80 – a $200 camera with a 16.2MP sensor, 8x optical zoom (25-200mm), 1080i60 video capture and built-in Wi-Fi. It also features Optical Steady Shot stabilization and 10fps burst shots.

A cheaper model ($140) is the CyberShot W730 – it has a 16.1MP sensor, 8x optical zoom and Optical Steady Shot, but it only does 720p video and lacks Wi-Fi. The W710 is $100 and has the same features, except the optical zoom, which is 5x.

The CyberShot TF1 drops the optical zoom reach to 4x, but it gains waterproofing (IPX8, up to 10m), along with shock (MIL-STD 810F), freeze and dust (IP6X) resistance. It’s $199.

All these cameras have Advanced flash (which boosts the camera’s sensitivity), 360-degree panoramas and Beauty shot. They will be available this month from Sony’s site, stores and authorized retailers.
